Mottling - Photogravure

The mottling associated with reticulation is quite subtle and not
visible at all in many of my prints. Still, it is a problem. I have
routinely add ethyl (grain) alcohol to the mix as well as spraying it on the
surface for bubbles for which it works wonders (for me anyway). Its'
omission seems to have no effect on reticulation though. I do use a big
"chilling" sheet when pouring tissue for time efficiency but changing the
rate of cooling seems to have only a minimal effect. Your comment about
heating above 120 F may have some merit, I carefully monitor temp and try
not to get much above 120 F on the melt because of a possibly unfounded
worry about deterioration of the gelatin. Perhaps someone else has concrete
information about avoiding reticulation this way. J Vee
